Current Definition Self-directed Learning
Self-directed Learning is the learning that occurs in the course of a challenging and personally meaningful activity. The activity is the context (or situation) for learning. Learning does not take for learning's sake, but rather to accomplish the activity. What is learned is determined by the learner and is influenced by the learner's understanding of the activity, motivation, materials and tools.
